Eligibility Criteria for Agniveervayu (Sports) 2026
Before applying, ensure you meet the following strict criteria set by the Indian Air Force.
1. Age Limit
- Date of Birth Block: Candidates born between 02 July 2005 and 02 January 2009 (both dates inclusive) are eligible.
- The upper age limit on the date of enrolment must be 21 years.
2. Marital Status
- Only unmarried male candidates can apply.
- Selected candidates must remain unmarried during the four-year engagement period. Marrying during this period will lead to discharge from service.
3. Educational Qualification
Candidates must have passed with minimum 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English from a recognized board. You can qualify under one of the following streams:
- Science Stream: 10+2/Intermediate with Mathematics, Physics, and English.
- Engineering Diploma: 3-year Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics/Automobile/Computer Science/IT).
- Vocational Course: 2-year Vocational course with Physics and Mathematics.
- Other Streams: 10+2/Intermediate in any stream (Arts/Commerce) with 50% marks in English.
4. Sports Achievement (The Most Important Part)
Your sports achievements are the primary filter. You must meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Represented India in Junior/Senior International competitions recognized by the IOA.
- Secured a minimum of 5th place in Junior National or participated in Senior National competitions conducted by recognized federations.
- Represented your State/UT in Junior/Senior National competitions or All India Inter-University Championships.
- Special Criteria for Cricket: Must have played in All India Inter-University or BCCI Trophies (Ranji, Duleep, U-23, etc.).
- Special Criteria for Chess: Must have a live International FIDE Standard Classic Rating of 2150 and above.
- Special Criteria for Shooting: Must have an NSCC ranking up to 50th in the specified events.
Selection Process:
The selection for Agniveervayu (Sports) is a multi-stage process designed to test your physical fitness, sports skills, and medical robustness.
Stage 1: Physical Fitness Test (PFT) – 08 April 2026
This is the first hurdle. You must qualify in all events to proceed.
- 1.6 Km Run: Must be completed within 7 minutes.
- Push-ups: 10 repetitions within 1 minute.
- Sit-ups: 10 repetitions within 1 minute.
- Squats: 20 repetitions within 1 minute.
Stage 2: Sports Skill Trials – 09 & 10 April 2026
Only candidates who clear the PFT will proceed to the Sports Skill Trials. This phase will be conducted by the Air Force Sports Control Board (AFSCB) to assess your technical and tactical prowess in your specific sport. Your current achievements and performance during the trial will be given preference.
Stage 3: Medical Examination
Candidates recommended after the sports trials will undergo a thorough medical examination at 2 Air Force Selection Centre (2 ASC) to ensure they meet the IAF’s stringent medical standards. This includes physical checks, X-rays, ECGs, and lab tests.
Benefits and Package for Agniveervayu (Sports)
Selected candidates will join as Agniveervayu for a four-year tenure under the Agnipath Scheme.
Monthly Salary & Corpus Fund (Seva Nidhi)
- Year 1: ₹30,000/- (In-hand ₹21,000/-)
- Year 2: ₹33,000/- (In-hand ₹23,100/-)
- Year 3: ₹36,500/- (In-hand ₹25,550/-)
- Year 4: ₹40,000/- (In-hand ₹28,000/-)
A part of the salary (₹9,000 to ₹12,000 per month) is contributed to the Agniveer Corpus Fund, with a matching contribution from the government. Upon completing four years, you will receive a lump sum “Seva Nidhi” Package of approximately ₹10.04 Lakhs.
